Rebel Wilson says movie contract stopped her losing weight and delayed health kick

Rebel Wilson has claimed she delayed losing weight due to her contractual obligations with the Pitch Perfect francashire.

The Australian actress, 42, says she couldn't lose more than 4.5kg during her time playing 'Fat Amy' in the popular movies - claiming she had to 'kind of stay at the weight' she was when she signed up for the role.

Rebel - who became a mum for the first time last year - recalls how she was considering 'getting healthier' before she eventually embarked on her weight loss journey, but had to wait until filming on the Pitch Perfect trilogy was over.

She adds how she was never offended by the role of 'Fat Amy' and 'loved' the character but didn't want to be pigeonholed in her career and typecast as 'the fat funny friend'.

Speaking about her weight during her time starring in the Pitch Perfect trilogy, Rebel says: "I couldn’t lose a massive amount of weight because I was in the contracts for that movie.

"You can’t lose, I think it’s not more than 10 pounds (4.5 kilograms), or gain more than 10 pounds."

"You have to kind of stay at the weight. It’s in your contract," the mum-of-one adds when chatting to Alexandra Cooper on the Call Her Daddy podcast.

The first installment of Pitch Perfect, which also starred Anna Kendrick and Anna Camp, hit cinemas across the world in 2012 and spawned two sequels - released in 2015 and 2017 respectively.

The musical comedies were a huge success at the box office - with Rebel picking up pay cheques of over £2million for the two sequels to original 2012 film.

Rebel hit her target weight in 2020, after transforming her body after undergoing a 'year of health' and losing more than 5.5 stone.

The Senior Year star - who went public with girlfriend Ramona Agruma last year - said she wanted to embark on a fitness journey after being told it would increase her chances of conceiving a baby as she was "thinking of a future mini-me".

Discussing how her weight impacted her career during her latest podcast interview, Rebel admits she loved playing roles like 'Fat Amy' because the character was so confident and ballasy but she was worried about being typecast.

"I was stereotyped in playing that fat funny friend, which is so hard because I love those roles," Rebel muses.

"I love doing the roles. I love those characters.

"But then I did want to do more things but I felt like being the bigger girl you’re just more pigeonholed."

Rebel has previously admitted her management didn't understand her desire to lose weight due to how much success she had achieved as a plus-size actress.

Speaking to BBC Breakfast about the challenges of her health kick in December 2021, the star explained: "I got a lot of pushback from my own team actually, here in Hollywood, when I said OK, I'm going to do this year of health, I feel like I'm really gonna physically transform and change my life.

"And they were like why? Why would you wanna do that? Because I was earning millions of dollars being the funny fat girl and being that person."
