Rebel Wilson’s wife has come under fire in court after the young actress suing the Hollywood star for defamation accused her recent Instagram post of “mocking the evidence” she gave.
Perth‑raised actor Charlotte MacInnes, who plays the lead role in Wilson’s directorial debut The Deb, is suing the Pitch Perfect star over a series of Instagram Stories posted between September 2024 and May last year.
The trial began in the Federal Court in Sydney on Monday, yet it was Wilson’s wife Ramona Agruma-Wilson’s social media post that sparked controversy on Thursday.
The Instagram Story showed Dory, a forgetful character from the Pixar film Finding Nemo, alongside the text: “I suffer from short-term memory loss … or do I? I can’t remember.”

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, MacInnes’ barrister Sue Chrysanthou SC asked her client about the post — which had been posted six hours after the bulk of MacInnes’ evidence had been completed — and she replied that she “felt as though she was mocking the evidence that [she] gave”.
Wilson’s barrister Dauid Sibtain SC said it was an “anodyne reference to a character from a movie”, to which Chrysanthou said that this “can’t be a serious” response “given the timing of the post”.
Chrysanthou then told the court, per SMH, that the Instagram post would be relevant to aggravated damages.

Why is Charlotte MacInnes suing Rebel Wilson?
MacInnes claims that Wilson’s series of Instagram Stories implied she complained of being sexually harassed during production in 2023, then “changed her story” to help her career. Wilson rejects that, saying she was passing on a workplace complaint MacInnes allegedly made to her.
The court heard that on September 5, 2023, British producer Amanda Ghost and MacInnes got into a warm bath at a Bondi penthouse after a cold ocean swim, both wearing swimmers and, according to MacInnes, with no touching. They were seen in the bath drinking chamomile tea and hot chocolate by a third person in the apartment, Pia Ashcroft, the court was told.
Wilson’s team say as part of her defence that a day later, at a Surry Hills recording studio, MacInnes told her she felt sexually harassed by what happened in the bath.
MacInnes’ team told the court her client alleges that Wilson only went public on Instagram after falling out with The Deb’s producers over writing credits and financing.

Outside the court on Monday, Wilson briefly spoke about the movie rather than the case, telling media, “I love the movie — The Deb is so cute and amazing”, and thanking people who are “going to the cinemas”.
The musical comedy, set around a debutante ball in rural New South Wales, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2024 and finally opened in Australian cinemas on April 9 after lengthy legal delays.
