Rebekah Vardy 'felt like a murderer' during her 'misogynistic' Wagatha Christie trial

Rebekah Vardy has hit out at the 'misogynistic' Wagatha Christie trial, in which she claims she was made to feel 'like a murderer'.

The 40-year-old wife of Leicester City footballer Jamie famously lost her High Court libel battle with Coleen Rooney, 36, last week and has since opened up how she felt 'bullied' throughout the process.

Justice Karen Steyn's verdict marked an end to the two-and-a-half year feud, which started in 2019 after Coleen claimed she had carried out a "sting operation" accusing Rebekah's account of leaking "false stories" about her private life in a now viral Instagram post.

The fake stories Rooney planted on her Instagram during the operation featured her travelling to Mexico for a "gender selection" procedure, her planning to return to TV, and the basement flooding at her home.

Now facing legal bills of up to £3 million, mother-of-five Rebekah has criticised the way she says she was treated.

"The way the cross-examination was handled was atrocious," she explained to the Sun.

"I have never felt so bullied and manipulated and shamed in my whole, entire life over things that had no relevance whatsoever to do with this case. I was sl*t-shamed. I was shamed for things that I had done 20 years ago or more."

She continued: "It felt like I had done something that was the most horrendous thing. I felt like a murderer at times and ultimately I wasn't given an option to answer questions. They were manipulated, they were twisted, and I was bullied. It was disgusting."

The former Dancing On Ice star went on state that she had 'no regrets', however, adding that the only thing she would change was the apparent 'narrative bias'.

However, she described the 'misogynistic' side of the proceedings, in which she felt it came across that 'women shouldn't be allowed to defend themselves', 'women shouldn't be allowed to do this', and 'they shouldn't be allowed to do that'.

Rebekah then labelled the affair 'classless', calling out those who were 'feeding off' pitching 'two successful working-class women together'.

Tonight (Wednesday), meanwhile, Rebekah is set to appear in her first television interview on TalkTV since the ruling and previews have shown her becoming very emotional as she declares she "didn't do it".

Speaking to journalist Kate McCann in a teaser clip ahead aired on Tuesday night, Rebekah says: "Oh come on, you can't ask me that."

She continues: "I will say that 'til I'm blue in the face. I did not do it!"

In response to another question, Rebekah says: "I feel let down by a lot of people, a lot of things. But most importantly I feel let down by the legal system."

She's later seen breaking down in tears as she sobs: "I'm going to cry!"
