Rebecca Adlington's celeb pals offer messages of support after heartbreaking miscarriage

Rebecca Adlington has been inundated with messages of support from her celebrity friends after revealing she suffered a heartbreaking miscarriage 12 weeks into her pregnancy.

The Olympic swimmer, 33, posted a picture of herself sitting in a hospital bed on Instagram to share the news with fans. She was yet to announce her pregnancy with the public.

Rebecca, who is mum to Summer and Albie, said she discovered she had suffered a miscarriage when she and her husband Andy Parsons went for their 12 week scan.

The athlete then underwent emergency surgery but suffered a further blow as she developed sepsis and a kidney infection after the operation.

Rebecca shared the news as she posted a photo of herself grasping a cup of tea as she sat in a hospital bed and received lots of support from her pals.

Coronation Street star Catherine Tyldesley wrote: "Oh love. I’m so sorry. Sending you both so much love and strength."

Broadcaster Orla Chennaoui praised Rebecca for her brave post. She said: " I’m so terribly, terribly sorry. So many of us go through this and never talk about it. Your honesty will help so many people. Sending you so much love."

" Oh my love sending so much love ," wrote Holby City actress Tina Hobley.

Writing on Instagram, Rebecca said: " On Tuesday me and Andy went to hospital for our 12 week scan only to discover we’ve had a miscarriage which resulted in emergency surgery.

"I managed to leave hospital Thursday only to be readmitted Friday. After a day of treating sepsis, a kidney infection and a fever I’m slowly on the mend. Long way to go but I’m in the right place.

"I can’t thank the hospitals and the staff enough, been so supportive. It’s such a devastating time but important in times like these we remember we aren’t alone and have so much support."

She added: "@andrewparsons5 you have been my rock this week. Same with family and friends. We haven’t managed to process it all yet but I know with their support we’ll get through it.

"Once I’m able to leave hospital I’m extremely grateful I get to go home and give my 2 little ones the best hugs!"

Rebecca welcomed her second child, a baby boy, in March last year. She announced the arrival of her son Albie by posting a picture of him wearing a blue knitted hat.

She is also a proud mum to her daughter Summer, seven, who she shares with her ex-husband Harry Needs.
