Rebecca Adlington devastated as she suffers tragic miscarriage 12 weeks into pregnancy

Rebecca Adlington has revealed she has suffered a heartbreaking miscarriage 12 weeks into her pregnancy.

Olympic swimmer Rebecca, 33, posted a photo of herself sitting in a hospital bed on her Instagram page to share the sad news with fans.

Rebecca was yet to announce her pregnancy to the public.

I'm A Celeb star Rebecca, who is mum to Summer and Albie, explained she discovered she had suffered a miscarriage when she and her husband Andy Parsons went for her 12 week scan.

The athlete then underwent emergency surgery but suffered a further blow as she developed sepsis and a kidney infection along with a fever shortly after the operation.

Rebecca shared the photo of herself grasping a cup of tea as she rested the mug on her legs, which were covered in a green blanket.

She sat in a hospital bed and had tubes attached to her hand in the photo.

As she posted the image to her Instagram page, Rebecca explained: "On Tuesday me and Andy went to hospital for our 12 week scan only to discover we’ve had a miscarriage which resulted in emergency surgery.

"I managed to leave hospital Thursday only to be readmitted Friday. After a day of treating sepsis, a kidney infection and a fever I’m slowly on the mend. Long way to go but I’m in the right place."

The athlete then shared her gratitude to medical staff as she added: "I can’t thank the hospitals and the staff enough, been so supportive.

"It’s such a devastating time but important in times like these we remember we aren’t alone and have so much support."

She then husband over her husband Andy, who she wed last year.

Rebecca penned: "@andrewparsons5 you have been my rock this week. Same with family and friends. We haven’t managed to process it all yet but I know with their support we’ll get through it.

"Once I’m able to leave hospital I’m extremely grateful I get to go home and give my 2 little ones the best hugs!"

Friends and fans soon flooded the comments section with messages of support.

Corrie star Catherine Tyldesley wrote: "Oh love. I’m so sorry. Sending you both so much love and strength".

Strictly Come Dancing star and fellow swimmer Ellie Simmonds added: "Sending love" followed by three red heart emojis.

While a fan added: "So sorry for your loss. Sending love and hope you recover soon x".

"I’m so sorry to hear,sending lots of love your way," a second added. [sic]

And a third wrote: "So sorry for your loss Becky x Wishing you a positive recovery".

The I'm A Celebrity star welcomed her second child, a baby boy called Albie Bennett, in March last year.

She announced the arrival of her son with a photo of the tot wearing a blue knitted hat, and a white sleep suit.

The newborn had a blue blanket placed over him as he held his arms up.

Introducing her son to the world, Rebecca wrote in the caption: "Welcome to the world Albie Bennett Parsons [blue heart emoji]

"4.3.21 [blue heart emoji]".

She is also a proud mum to her daughter Summer, seven, who she shares with her ex-husband Harry Needs.

Shortly after welcoming their son Albie in September, Rebecca and Andy tied the knot in a sweet ceremony surrounded by the swimmer's fellow Olympian pals.

The newlyweds, who have five-month-old son Albie, shared a selection of sweet snaps with Hello! Magazine.

Speaking to the publication, Rebecca said: "The sun shone, the people we love were there and it was just the best day."
