Steven Gerrard has explained his reasoning for appointing James Tavernier as Rangers captain, despite not viewing the Ibrox hero as a "natural leader".

The former Rangers manager made Tavernier his captain in 2018, as the defender replaced Lee Wallace as the skipper for the Glasgow club.
