Reason Boy George repeatedly taps his face on I'm a Celebrity

I'm A Celebrity viewers may have noticed Boy George tapping his face and neck while in the jungle.

The Karma Chameleon singer has been spotted using a 'tapping technique' while in camp and during trials, in a bid to calm his nerves. Emotional freedom technique (EFT) tapping claims to help manage anxiety by drawing on the ancient Chinese practice of acupuncture.

According to OK Magazine, as part of the process, individuals must first identify what issue they are dealing with before scaling their emotional or physical discomfort on a scale of 0 to 10.

Once done, as viewers could see with Boy George, the person must begin the EFT tapping sequence - beginning at the top of their head before working down the side of their face and neck all the way to their underarms.

It’s believed that the physical action of tapping certain points is able to relax our nervous system by disrupting our fight or flight response and therefore increasing the amount of endorphins in our body.

In addition to this, tapping can also help to distract a person away from their feelings of stress and instead allow them to focus on their body and regulate their breathing - all of which can improve feelings of anxiety.
