Real Madrid star Marco Asensio makes future verdict amid Manchester United links

Marco Asensio has admitted that he is hopeful of remaining with Real Madrid after he was linked with Manchester United earlier this year.

United were on the lookout for a winger in the summer as Erik ten Hag looked to shape his new team in his image. In June, the 26-year-old discussed his ambition to achieve more during his career but that he was happy with the Galacticos.

This, however, did not stop reports surfacing that his agent Jorge Mendes had offered his services to United. If this was the case, Ten Hag opted to go in a different direction.

His former Ajax player Antony arrived in Manchester and no further forwards were brought in afterwards. It is expected that, following Cristiano Ronaldo's interview with Piers Morgan, Ten Hag will make the attacking line a priority.

Asensio will be a free agent in the summer and Ten Hag could be able to sign the right-sided player on a cheaper deal this winter. But, according to the player himself, Asensio wishes to remain at the Bernabeu.

Speaking to Radio Marca, he said: "Do I want to renew? Hopefully it can happen and I’ll be very happy at Real Madrid for many years, hopefully everything will work out so I can stay for 10 more years.

"There is talk that I am changing Real Madrid’s mind. But I have always tried to give the best that I have within me, and then later on people will know about it.

"The one who decides, too, is the club, it does not only depend on me. After the World Cup, we’ll both make a decision."

Asensio is currently with the Spain squad ahead of the prestigious tournament in Qatar. The Spaniards get their World Cup campaign underway on Wednesday when they face Costa Rica.
