European champions Real Madrid are reportedly once again plotting a move for Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni.
Los Blancos, who are lacking options at the heart of the defence, have identified the 25-year-old as a priority target for the summer of 2025.
Real Madrid have been plagued by injuries in the last two seasons. In the 2023-24 season, they lost goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and centre-back Eder Militao to anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears within the opening game of the season. Later in December, David Alaba joined them on the treatment table, with him also rupturing his ACL.
Nacho and Antonio Rudiger more than pulled their fair share of the weight to ensure a magnificent campaign for the All-Whites, helping them win La Liga, the UEFA Champions League, and the Supercopa de Espana.
Over the summer, Nacho left the club as a free agent, Alaba has yet to return to action, and Militao has once again ruptured his ACL, leaving Carlo Ancelotti with a dangerously thin backline. To make matters worse, Dani Carvajal has also suffered an ACL tear and will not feature for Los Merengues this season.
The Italian tactician has paired Rudiger either with Castilla starlet Raul Asencio or make-shift centre-back Aurelien Tchouameni and had to deploy Lucas Vazquez at right-back.
Real Madrid Eyeing Move For Inter Milan Star Alessandro Bastoni
Real Madrid are unlikely to shop in the winter, but according to Fichajes.net, they have a clear target for next summer. Bastoni, who had popped up on Madrid’s radar a few months ago, has once again emerged as an important target, with the scouts in awe of his leadership skills, ball-playing ability, and confidence. They see Bastoni as the ideal man to lead Madrid’s defence for the foreseeable future.
Signing Bastoni, however, will not be straightforward, as Inter Milan see him as a vital member of their project. The Nerazzurri would only consider selling the Italian for important money. Real Madrid are reportedly contemplating making a sizable bid, but the interest from other prominent European clubs could complicate matters.
Bastoni, who joined from Parma in 2019, has played 220 matches for Inter Milan in all competitions so far, scoring four goals and providing 22 assists. The two-time Serie A winner sees his contract expire on June 30, 2028.
