Real Madrid are ready to make a fresh approach to sign Chelsea star Reece James this summer if the Blues are forced to sell players due to Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations. James only recently signed a new long-term deal that would keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2028.
The 23-year-old is one of the best right-backs in the world and it's unlikely that the Blues would sell him for any less than a world-record fee for a defender. Chelsea's problems this season may be concerning for James and the interest from Madrid may test his resolve.
The England international endured a difficult evening up against Vinicius Junior during the west Londoners' 2-0 defeat at the Santiago Bernabeu. Goals from Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio have given the Champions League holders a strong advantage heading into the second leg of their quarter-final tie.

There are concerns that Chelsea could be forced to sell on some of their prized assets this summer following their £600million transfer spend in the last 12 months. The Blues look set to miss out on European football next season and may need to sell many players in order to abide by FFP rules.
According to Marca, Madrid are ready to make a fresh bid to sign James if Chelsea are forced to sell players this summer. The report states that the 23-year-old defender could be available for just €50million (£44million) - which seems well wide of the mark given his contract situation, talent and potential.
The Spanish giants are long-time admirers of the England right back and reportedly made an approach to sign him 12 months ago. Madrid are prepared to wait to sign a long-term replacement for Dani Carvajal and are preparing a fresh approach for James depending on Chelsea's FFP situation in the summer.
Mason Mount and Conor Gallagher have also been linked with moves away from Stamford Bridge this summer. Both players are attracting interest from Liverpool, football.london understands.
Mount's contract situation could see him leave his boyhood club with Chelsea yet to reach an agreement to extend his deal. The midfielder is hesitant to agree to the Blues' demands of tying him down on a new seven-year deal as he wants a wage packet that represents his significance in the team.
