Real Madrid have been handed a major injury scare ahead of their Champions League last-16 clash with Liverpool as Thibaut Courtois is set to undergo a scan.
The goalkeeper has been among Madrid's best players this season as they struggle to keep pace with La Liga leaders Barcelona. But the former Chelsea number one could now face a spell on the sidelines.
Courtois was set to start in goal for the Spanish champions on Sunday night away to Mallorca. But an adductor injury picked up in the warm-up prevented the 30-year-old from taking part and Madrid lost 1-0.

Carlo Ancelotti's second-placed side are now eight points adrift of bitter rivals Barca. So Courtois being out injured would be a massive blow to retaining the title - and defending their European crown, too. According to Marca, the Belgium international will undergo a scan this morning (Monday).
Courtois was named man of the match as Madrid beat Liverpool 1-0 in last season's Champions League final in Paris. That defeat for the Reds came on the back of losing the Premier League title to Manchester City on the final day of the 2021-22 campaign.
The Carabao Cup and FA Cup winners haven't recovered from that double blow. They currently sit bottom of the Premier League form table from the start of 2023, following their 3-0 defeat at Wolves on Saturday.
