Real Madrid reportedly moved to offer Eduardo Camavinga a new contract to fend off transfer interest from Liverpool.
The French midfielder has agreed to extend his stay at the Spanish giants until 2028, as claimed by MARCA, resulting in the player's release clause jumping from €700million to €1billion. First recruited from Rennes in 2021, the 20-year-old has become a first-team regular in Carlo Ancelotti's side and should keep his place despite the arrival of Jude Bellingham due to his ability to also perform in a left-back role.
As part of negotiations for this contract extension, Camavinga is said to have 'demanded' he returns to a regular midfield role or threatened to 'study offers on the table'. Liverpool are listed as a side who were interested in securing his services, with El Nacional indicating Jurgen Klopp 'already tried' to sign the youngster during his time at Rennes and remains keen on the player.
Los Blancos, as a result of this interest, were 'forced to intervene' to ensure the long-term future of one of their prized assets. Klopp is said to have been 'amazed at the growth' of Camavinga since signing for Real and 'ordered' the Liverpool board to launch an effort to bring him to Anfield. It is suggested the Reds were willing to offer a salary of €20m (£17m) per season over a four-year contract.

Not the only Real Madrid player to have been linked with a move to Anfield of late, it was recently stated Liverpool are 'ready' to submit a £77m bid for Federico Valverde. The Uruguayan was part of the Real side that started the 2022 Champions League final versus the Reds and assisted Vinicius Junior's game-winning strike during the second half of proceedings.
Valverde's deal at the Bernabeu is due to expire in 2027 and he, too, has a release clause of €1billion, in order to detract potential buyers from finding a transfer agreement with ease.
