Season two of Netflix's hit show Bridgerton arrived last week, with plenty of people excited to see the next instalment of the character’s lives.
On the show, the Bridgerton family and their friends’ ages range from about 11 to 31 years old.
However, as is the joy of film and TV, many of the actors are significantly older than the characters they play - though, you’d never know from their performances.
Let’s take a look at the ages of the cast of Bridgerton compared to that of their characters.
Edwina Sharma
Starting first with the show’s new additions, Edwina Sharma is one of the characters joining in season two. She is the younger half-sister of Kate Sharma, and is about 17 or 18.
She is played by Charithra Chandran, who made her on-screen debut last year in season two of Alex Rider.
Chandran is actually 25, which is just a year younger than her on-screen sister.

Kate Sharma
Based on the character of Kate Sheffield in the books, Kate Sharma joins the story this season, with some aspects of her back story and heritage altered to include more diversity to the show.
According to Insider, all you need to know about her character is that she is “strong-willed, has a younger sister who is set to be the ‘Incomparable’ of the 1814 season, and is definitely not into Anthony Bridgerton”.
She is considered to be a spinster as she is 26 and unmarried.
Kate is played by Simone Ashley, who was the same age as her character during filming. Today, March 30, is actually her birthday, with the star turning 27.
Daphne Bridgerton
Daphne makes her debut in high society in the first novel, ‘The Duke and I’, which the first season is based on. It is set in 1813, when Daphne was 21.
Season two is based in 1814, meaning that Daphne is now 22.
At the time of filming the first season, which wrapped up in February 2020, Phoebe Dynevor, who plays Daphne, was 24. She will be 27 this April.
Eloise Bridgerton
Daphne’s younger sister Eloise is just 18 in the first season, with her full story playing out in the fifth book, ‘To Sir Phillip, with Love’.
However, she is played by Claudia Jessie, who is 32-years-old. At age 22, Jessie made her on-screen debut in Doctors, a British soap opera, in 2012.
Penelope Featherington
Eloise’s best friend, Penelope, is seen as one of the most relatable characters in the whole show. In season one, she pines for Colin Bridgerton and tries to keep her cousin Marina away from him.
A big reveal in relation to this character comes at the end of season one, which looks set to shape up season two very well.
Penelope is played by the adored actress from Galway, Nicola Coughlan. Known for her role as Clare in Derry Girls, Bridgerton isn’t her first role as a teenager.
Coughlan is actually 35-years-old, and was 34 during the filming of season two.
Marina Thompson
Exactly how old the character of Marina Thompson in the TV adaptation of Bridgerton is a mystery. However, there is a character with the same name in the fifth book who would have been 20 during the time the story began.
Marina is played by Ruby Barker, who, at 25, is a whole decade younger than Coughlan.
Colin Bridgerton
The third eldest of the Bridgerton boys is Colin, who is 23.
During the first season, he pines over Marina, but those who read the book know what’s to come for the pair.
Colin is played by Luke Newton, who was 28 during the filming of the second season. He is now 29, having celebrated his birthday in February.
Benedict Bridgerton
Ahead of Colin is Benedict, who is 28-years-old. The series’ third book centres around him, with some hoping the TV show will deviate to make him an LGBTQ character.
Luke Thompson plays Benedict and, at 33, he is a few years older than the character and even older than his on-screen brother, Anthony.
Anthony Bridgerton
Eldest of the family, Anthony Bridgerton is 31 by the second season, which focuses on his love story with Kate Sharma.
He is played by Jonathan Bailey, who turns 34 in April. Though just a few years older than his character, he is around the same age as Coughlan and Jessie, who are more than a decade younger than him in the show.
Simon Basset
The Duke of Hastings is 29 in season one of Bridgerton, which means that he would be at least 30 this time round.
Regé-Jean Page, who plays the Duke, was nominated for an Emmy for lead actor in a drama series last year. Unfortunately, he won’t be returning for this season.
Page is 34, making him closer to Dynevor’s age than Simon is to Daphne.
Violet Hastings
The Bridgerton matriarch, Violet Hastings, was widowed at a young age, with the death of her husband having taken place about ten years prior to the events of season one. By 1813, she is 48.
She is played by Ruth Gemmell, who is 54, and best known for her role in Fever Pitch alongside Colin Firth.
Queen Charlotte
Bridgerton makes the world of high society in 1800s Britain more diverse than it was in real life. Queen Charlotte, who was a real queen and wife to King George III, is an example of this.
As reported by Insider, the real Queen Charlotte was thought to be England’s first monarch of mixed race, though she is mainly depicted as white in art.
In 1814, the period in which the second series is set, Charlotte was 70 years old.
She is played by Golda Rosheuvel, who is just 52-years-old. She nails the character of Charlotte so well, despite the age gap, that Netflix is creating a spin-off about her younger years.
