Eatala to take on CM in Gajwel
Telangana BJP MLA Eatala Rajender said on Saturday that he was seriously considering contesting the next assembly election from Gajwel, chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's constituency.
He claimed that the people of Gajwel were unhappy with KCR and that TRS's popularity had been on the decline in the state since 2019. Eatala was the Telangana health minister in the TRS government until he was accused of land-grabbing in 2021 by KCR. He had then left TRS and joined BJP. He had also resigned as MLA and won back the Huzurabad constituency as a BJP candidate.
"He (KCR) would face the same fate as West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, who lost in Nandigram to BJP candidate Suvendu Adhikari in the 2021 elections. Nandigram will be repeated in Gajwel," Eatala told reporters during an informal chat. Sources told TOI that for the past couple of months, he has been in touch with local leaders in Gajwel and Medak to asses ground realities. Eatala added that many BJP leaders from Gajwel and Medak are asking him to contest from Gajwel. "There is a need to defeat KCR by keeping egos aside and putting up a united effort. The party has begun serious efforts now," Eatala told reporters. The MLA, who has been put in charge of a BJP committee to poach leaders from other parties, said many would join his party soon.
"TRS poached four of our corporators in GHMC. We won't keep quiet. There would be a fitting reply from us soon," he threatened. He came down heavily on the TRS government and on KCR for "cheating every section of the society and tribals on the Podu land issue". He recalled that the chief minister had promised to distribute land to tribals who had been cultivating forest land, but the promise had not been kept.
