Reading campaign picks up pace in Telangana

HYDERABAD: A compulsory reading period has been set apart in schools to inculcate the habit in students in Telangana. During the library period, the students will read books which are not necessarily related to their subjects.

Nagarkurnool DEO Govindarajulu, who inaugurated the READ — ‘Read, enjoy and develop’ — programme in the district at Zilla Parishad High School, said the focus of the programme was on making students develop a habit of reading. “Reading is taking a back seat because of the other easily accessible media. It is by reading newspapers everyday and books that one gains knowledge,” he said. Students have been advised to read about the life stories of national leaders and heroes.
