The Boston Celtics have sent Marcus Smart to the Memphis Grizzlies and acquired Kristaps Porzingis from the Washington Wizards in a different three-team deal than many fans expected to see completed when waking up the next day.
As part of the deal, the Celtics also obtained valuable draft picks, but the departure of Smart has divided Celtics fans. Porzingis’ potential contract extension raises financial concerns for the team as well, whether you are afraid of a long-term commitment due to his health concerns or worried he might leave the team for nothing in free agency. The trade also affects the Celtics’ future decisions on player contracts.
The host of the CLNS Media “Garden Report” podcast, Bobby Manning, sat down after the news broke to offer his thoughts on the surprise deal.
Check out the clip embedded above to hear what he had to say about the end of the Smart era.
