Resident Evil Village’s brand new DLC expansion, Shadows of Rose, is a short but sweet campaign where you play as Ethan Winters’ daughter Rose. Rose is mentally revisiting many of the locations from Ethan’s adventure, and just one of those locations is House Beneviento.
This time House Beneviento is under the control of Eveline, Resident Evil 7’s primary antagonist. She’s mad at Rose, and she is willing to tease her and unleash all hell. Escape is difficult, but that’s what we’re here for. In this guide we’re breaking down everything you need to know to escape House Beneviento and finish the Shadows of Rose DLC.
If you’re still in Castle Dimitrescu, make sure to read through our Shadows of Rose Castle guide first.
Stitched monkey, Relief of a Child, Study lock puzzle – Shadows of Rose
As Rose enters House Beneviento, it seems very welcoming. You’ll pass a door that requires a Relief of a Child to unlock, and when you enter the door at the end of the room, you’ll see the Purifying Crystal on a table. It’s a fake, of course. Your weapons and equipment will be taken from you for a long time now, and on the table will instead be a monkey doll with stitches along the center. For now, move through to the Medicine Room.
In the next room, exit through the door and follow the hallway. Go through the gap between the walls, and read the back of the child’s picture for a hint. “The stuffed locker, the picture of the bookshelf, the desk covered in stuff.”
This is the solution for the locked cabinet inside the Study. To get the combination, look inside the locker to see 02 on the back. The picture frame on the bookshelf has 44 on the rear. The floor underneath the desk has 66 written on it.
The Study cabinet lock combination is 024466.
You’ll receive the Scissors here. Return to the monkey doll and open the stitches up to find the Relief of a Child, allowing you to open the locked door from earlier. But a new puzzle will take the place of the monkey, one a bit more complicated.
Doll puzzle, Jimmy’s Room Key, Breaker Box Key – Shadows of Rose
Look on the table to your left to find a rough explanation of the puzzle, and a doll. Take the doll, and now you can head to the Relief of a Child door to get inside. Inside you’ll find a second doll puzzle. For now, just take the doll on the table you’re able to pick up and you can return to the Medicine Room.
The Medicine Room has yet another doll puzzle, with just two pedestals. The pedestals are named, so place the Catherine and Lucy dolls. This is easy, as Lucy has her name written on her. The other doll is Catherine. Once you place them, a drawer will open, rewarding you with Jimmy’s Room Key. Pick up the dolls and head to Jimmy’s Room, which is through the long passage from the Workshop.
This is a short dungeon meant to intimidate. Focus on the mold core to destroy it, and then head down the ladder here. You will find a third doll at the bottom, and you can immediately leave. Thanks to the name of the room, we can assume that this is Jimmy.
Return to the Relief of a Child room, as you now have three dolls to use. The names are scratched off, so you have to guess which to place thanks to the props next to them. Place Jimmy holding the present, and place Lucy on the ladder, holding the rod. Catherine can take up the empty space. This will open the drawer, rewarding you with a fourth and final doll. Make sure to pick them all up, and then head to the Workshop.
The Workshop’s doll puzzle has four places to fill, and only Lucy’s position is named. You can guess, again, from the poses. Place Jimmy holding the firewood, Catherine holding a stick, and the final doll can go on the empty space. Here we see the dolls burning another doll, revealing a Breaker Box Key.
Breaker Box, Fuse location, mannequin stealth challenge – Shadows of Rose
We’re nearing the end of the puzzles now. From the Workshop, head to where you first entered to use the Breaker Box Key on the Breaker Box. You’ll find it requires a Fuse, and will find a Fuse Map inside. It’s like the Hand-Drawn Map from Castle Dimitrescu – you’ll need to compare it to your in-game map to find the item. It’s found in the Bedroom, through the Study and past the Kitchen. These locations will be added to your main map, too. Conveniently, the door to the Study here will also open up, allowing you to follow the path on the map.
This is where you meet the mother mannequins. These are like Super Mario’s Boos, and as long as you’re looking at them, they will stop moving. If you look away, they will begin to move again. Their footsteps are loud, and they will chase you. Make sure to face them as you move through rooms to stay one step ahead. You can loop through the kitchen here and face the mannequin pursuer as you focus on the mold core. Then loop around and go to the Bedroom to grab the Fuse in the corner. The mannequin will bolt open the door, bu again, as long as you face them, they can’t get you. Perfect time for a second to show up.
Sometimes mannequins will block your path, and you will need to turn away in order to make them move so you get through. This is scary, but as long as you’re fast, it’s safe. You’ll need to do this once you make your way to the Study. Finally, place the Fuse and use the elevator. For it to not work, of course.
Doll-size stealth challenge – Shadows of Rose
One more challenge. This time, you’ve been shrunk down to the size of a doll, and they’ll be the ones hunting you. You’ll see them, and their deadly weapons, run further into the house you must explore. The dolls do follow very predictable paths, and as long as you don’t get too close from behind, they won’t notice you as long as you’re outside of their vision – which is helpfully illuminated like a torch.
If you do get caught and injured, Rose will move slowly, at which point you should find a safe zone and wait until your injury goes away and you can move normally again. To start with you’ll simply be moving past dolls while staying out of their vision, and shortly after you’ll be breaking mold cores so they drop items from the ceiling, which will draw the attention of nearby dolls. If a stealth section looks impossible, there’s probably a core to break instead.
Once you find a White Sprig of Sage, that’s an indicator that you will need to use your Focus powers to stun dolls before moving past them. The goal is to make it to the bedroom, and as long as you’re patient and take your time when in cover, you will be able to make it through relatively easily.
Once you’re out of the bedroom a short chase sequence begins, where you’ll be breaking mold cores while running through a linear passage. At the end your helpful pal Michael finds you, and manages to save you from a mannequin that’s hunting you down.
Winters’ House – Shadows of Rose
This is a short and simple moment where, as Rose, you return to the Winters’ house that you may remember from the beginning of Resident Evil Village. Rose can explore the house, and enjoy some of her father’s memories.
Upstairs you can find a Drawer Key on the back of a picture frame in Ethan’s Office. Open up the drawer here to find a letter for Rose from her father. Following this, Rose will be dragged back into House Beneviento by Eveline.
Eveline boss battle – Shadows of Rose
House Beneviento is falling apart thanks to the mutamycete sludge. Run down the linear hallway – once you’re in the Workshop, you’re likely to be attacked by dolls twice, slowly you to a crawl. You will almost certainly get caught if you’re limping, so as you exit the Workshop, just wait in place until you’ve recovered and can run again.
Break the mold cores while running from your assailants, and make your way to the elevator. Eveline will confront you, but you’re ready to fight her now. Take the elevator upstairs, take the fourth RW-Variant Flask to boost your powers, and get ready for a fight. You still don’t have your weapons, so you must focus on using your powers and avoiding attacks.
The room where you battle Eveline has several tables and pieces of furniture you can hide behind. You should hide behind whatever you can as Eveline charges up, and once she unleashes a barrage of attacks she will calm for a moment, which is your opportunity to focus on her. You’ll need to successfully use your focus attack on her three total times before Michael helps out to deal the final blow after climbing the stairs.
Once Eveline is down, you will be forcefully ejected from House Beneviento, and will find yourself in an even deeper stratum.
