‘I’m gonna go throw up’: South Carolina woman drinks most of her Alani Nu. Then she feels a thud at the bottom of the can

A South Carolina woman named Chandler Manusky found a dead mouse at the bottom of her Alani Nu energy drink can. She had already drunk “three-fourths of it” before she noticed the can felt heavier than it should. This led her to cut open the bottom of the can, where she made the disturbing discovery. A TikTok video of the moment has since gone viral, with over 2.9 million views.

According to Brobible, Manusky can be seen cutting open the bottom half of the can in the video. “I feel a little thud,” she says, as she opens it up and finds the dead rodent inside. Her reaction was immediate and visceral.

“I’m disgusted by myself,” Manusky says in the video. “I’m gonna go throw up in the bathroom, I’m, like, shaking.” The video sparked widespread concern among consumers of the popular energy drink brand.

This is not the first time dead mice have been found inside Alani Nu cans

This is not an isolated incident. In 2024 alone, three separate Alani Nu customers went viral after claiming they found dead mice inside their cans. The repeated nature of these reports has raised serious questions about the brand’s manufacturing and quality control processes. South Carolina has also seen its share of disturbing news lately, with one case involving a woman running a dog fighting ring while keeping children in filthy conditions drawing widespread outrage.

It is not fully understood how a mouse ends up sealed inside a can. Some believe the animal gets inside just before the can is sealed during the manufacturing process. The exact cause has not been confirmed, and neither Alani Nu nor regulators have publicly explained how it keeps happening.

Finding mice in soda cans is not a completely new phenomenon, either. In 2017, a South Dakota man reportedly found a mouse in a Coca-Cola can, and in 2012, a man claimed to have found one in a Mountain Dew can. In both of those earlier cases, the companies involved downplayed the incidents, suggesting the mice would have decomposed or dissolved in the drink.

One TikTok commenter urged her to take legal action: “go to the hospital and get a bill, contact a lawyer, Sue Alani!.” Many others in the comments also told her to file complaints. In other viral news, a woman recently made headlines after discovering a thrift store painting worth a fortune for just $30.

As of now, the investigation is ongoing. Manusky’s case, along with the multiple similar claims from 2024, has put pressure on both Alani Nu and the FDA to provide answers about how this is happening and what steps are being taken to prevent it from happening again.
