RBI keeps repo rate unchanged at 6.5%

NEW DELHI: In a surprise move, the Reserve Bank of India's monetary policy committee (MPC) on Thursday decided to keep the repo rate unchanged at 6.5%, RBI governor Shaktikanta Das said.

Repo rate is the rate at which the RBI lends to other banks.

"The MPC unanimously decided to keep rates unchanged in this meeting with readiness to act if the situation so warrants," governor Shaktikanta Das said. "The MPC will not hesitate to act as needed in future meetings."
