The Appeal, and What Drives It
Dogs evolved from wolves, and wolves eat raw meat, so the argument goes. It is a clean line of reasoning, and it explains why raw feeding communities have grown quickly, including in Indian cities where fresh meat from the local butcher feels more natural than an imported bag of processed kibble. The instinct is not wrong. Processed pet food does carry its own concerns: inconsistent quality control, high carbohydrate loads, and preservatives that would not belong in a human meal. But the jump from "processed food has problems" to "raw meat is safe" skips several steps that microbiology fills in rather uncomfortably.
