Ravens HC John Harbaugh discusses extension of K Justin Tucker

The Baltimore Ravens found a gem in kicker Justin Tucker when he signed with the team as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Texas in 2012. Since entering the NFL, Tucker has made history and proven to be one of the best (if not the best) kicker of all time.

On Monday, the Ravens announced that they signed Tucker to a four-year contract extension that keeps him in Baltimore through the 2027. Following the news, head coach John Harbaugh spoke to after the team’s training camp practice. When asked if he was pleased with Tucker being under contract through 2027, Harbaugh said he didn’t have any doubt.

“Yes, I didn’t have any doubt he would be. It was just a matter of … You knew it was going to happen. You knew it was going to happen, I’ll leave it at that. You want me to comment on Justin [Tucker]? _(Reporter: “Yes, please.”)Is it even necessary? Justin is beyond what kind of a kicker he is and all of that, I would say the kind of leader he is, the guy he is to be around. Being out here with the mindset that he takes to it in terms of his work ethic, also his sense of humor, his understanding of the moment. Even in the meetings, he always has some kind of a comment. He laughs at my jokes, which I really appreciate. (laughter)So, we’re happy to have him back.”

Through his 12 NFL seasons, Tucker has been selected to five Pro Bowls, named a First-Team AP All-Pro four times and has a 91.1% career field goal percentage, making him the most accurate kicker in NFL history. Many expect Tucker to enter the Hall of Fame when he decides to hang up the cleats, but for now he has plenty more football ahead of him.
