The Baltimore Ravens traded a second-round pick, a fifth-round pick and inside linebacker A.J. Klein to the Chicago Bears for inside linebacker Roquan Smith at the 2022 trade deadline. The move has paid off in many different ways for Baltimore, as Smith has been a perfect fit with the team.
When asked about Smith, head coach John Harbaugh raved about his leadership and what he brings to the table both in a vocal and in an inspirational sense. He talked about how he leads by example all the time, calling him a special kind of guy.
“That’s exactly what he does, he does lead by example, but he does it every way. He’s also a vocal leader, he’s also kind of an inspirational leader. He does it on the field; he does it in the weight room; he does it in the meeting room. He’s just one those guys – one of those special kind of guys.”
Smith’s arrival helped the rest of the players on the Ravens’ defense, as everyone took a step forward with his presence. He is regarded as one of the best, if not the best, middle linebackers in the league, and he has certainly lived up to that billing both in Chicago and in Baltimore.
