Liverpool's defence of the Carabao Cup came to an end after they were beaten by Manchester City on Thursday night.
City led on three separate occasions and sealed a quarter-final place with a 3-2 victory at the Etihad. This was the first time both sides had played a competitive game since the middle of November.
Erling Haaland fired City ahead before Fabio Carvalho drew the Reds level with a smart finish 10 minutes after the forward’s opener. But Riyad Mahrez restored the hosts' lead less than a minute into the second-half.
