Rat infestation leaves families 'too scared' to let kids play out on the street

Families have been left too scared to let their children outside to play due to a rat infestation on their street.

Residents on Bashall Street in Bolton, Greater Manchester, say they have been terrorised by the disease-bearing rodents for months. They claim they have been fighting a daily battle to keep them at bay from their properties. The issue has been taking its toll on the mums and dads - with some saying the problem is affecting their mental health as they fear for their children's safety.

Alexandra Barlow, who lives on Bashall Street with her partner Daniel Gerencser and eight-month-old daughter Laura, says the problems started when they had their rented home renovated two years ago. After noticing rats were gathering among broken furniture in the garden, the couple hired a skip which appeared to fix the issue.
