South African rugby coach Rassie Erasmus was left embarrassed as he appeared to re-share a graphic pornography video on his Twitter feed.
The 49-year-old World Cup winner claimed ‘hackers’ were responsible for the video, and he was forced to ask his 89,500 followers how to remove the retweet himself. Erasmus declared he had not interacted with XNXN Video’s tweet - which was a graphic video showcasing porn - himself and that his account had been breached on Saturday morning.
“Sorry guys about that inapropriate [sic] tweets!!” Erasmus tweeted. “The handle has been hacked!! Reallly [sic] sorry about that!! I am trying to sort it out !!! Rassie.”
Erasmus, South Africa’s director of rugby, was adamant that he had deleted his retweet, but it continued to show up on the feeds of his followers. The moment led his followers to realise it may be his inadequacy with technology that was preventing him from moving on from the error.
“Guys the hackers still seem to have the retweet from earlier appearing in some places although it has been deleted on my side and reported,” Erasmus added. “Hopefully my account will be sorted shortly. Rassie.”
Many of his followers struggled to explain to Erasmus how to un-do a retweet. Erasmus said: “Guys and ladies thanks for the advice to undo the retweet!!
“It is deleted on my account, but I did not retweet it!! The moment I delete it pops up again somewhere else! Appreciate the corncern [sic].”
It is the latest issue surrounding Erasmus and his erratic behaviour after he made headlines during the British & Irish Lions tour of South Africa. In July 2021, the Springboks director of rugby was believed to be using a burner account on Twitter to criticise refereeing decisions against the European side.
Erasmus retweeted two posts by a user with the name Jaco Johan, who only had two visible posts on the account. It was widely accepted that Erasmus was the likely voice behind the mysterious account.

Fans were particularly convinced Erasmus created the account as his first name is Johan. The biography for the account stated: “I am Rassie's voice when he is too nervous to say something himself! Watch the space — some good stuff on its way.”
When asked if he is using an alter-ego on Twitter, Erasmus vehemently denied the suggestions. He told reporters: “No, I’m actually not Jaco Johan, I’m Rassie Erasmus.
“I actually follow Jaco Johan. He's a big supporter of us. He's been feeding me some really good clips for a while now, things that I've actually used in the past.
“He's a very big supporter, a really funny guy and I quite enjoy the things that he does.”
