No former Seahawks player will be more interesting to watch in 2023 than Rashaad Penny. A first-round pick by Seattle in 2018, Penny finally delivered on his potential in the stretch run of the 2021 season and started 2022 hot before another major injury put him on the sidelines for the season. The Seahawks finally punted on Penny this offseason, allowing him to leave in free agency.
Penny eventually signed with the Eagles, immediately making him a fascinating boom-or-bust candidate. Philadelphia has the best offensive line in the business by a galaxy or two, and it’s not hard to imagine a healthy Penny absolutely thriving in their offense.
Good news for Penny fans – it sounds like he may be in line to start in a crowded backfield. Eagles beat reporter Eliot Shorr-Parks reports that Penny got the first rep with the starters to begin Philly’s first training camp practice.

While this is a promising start, Penny will also have to compete with D’Andre Swift, Kenneth Gainwell and Boston Scott for carries. The odds may be against him, but we are very-much rooting for Penny to go off and have an Offensive Player of the Year type of campaign.
As for Seattle’s running back room, Ken Walker is now at the top of the depth chart. He’ll be backed up by rookie Zach Charbonnet, veteran DeeJay Dallas and seventh-round draft pick Kenny McIntosh.
