Every four years, what's known as the Hunter's Moon appears in November and falls in October for the rest of the time. This spooky season, the lunar event will take place not once but twice this month on two successive evenings.
The name comes from when the celestial event was an optimal time to go hunting in preparation for the winter. It follows the harvest moon which appeared this year on September 22, 2022.
Nicknames for the moons date back to Native Americans who used them to keep track of the seasons and the best times to harvest and hunt. This month's moon is also known as the "sanguine" or "blood" moon due to its appearance.
