Firefighters called to a major fire in Nottinghamshire have now released an update as crews will "certainly" remain at the scene into early next week. The huge fire in Ranskill which could be seen from miles around has involved thousands of tyres and several diesel tanks.
It comes after firefighters were called to the incident in Station Road shortly after 10.20am on Friday (August 5). Police are treating the fire as suspected arson and are appealing for information.
In an update on Saturday afternoon (August 6), a Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service boss said a heavy presence will be at the scene for some time. The incident is likely to go into the early days of next week.

Speaking from the scene, Incident Commander Group Manager Matt Reavill said: "Where we are today, sort of mid afternoon on Saturday, we have made significant progress on the fire.
"And police say we have got fire surrounded now, which basically means we have got control of it. Much of the fire has been suppressed and we are just sequentially working down across a large area just to make sure all the fire has been extinguished.
"Although we are on top of it, we are going to be on scene for some time with quite a heavy presence. This incident is likely to take us certainly into the early days of next week."
People are being urged to avoid the area if possible and those living in or travelling through the area are advised to keep windows and doors shut. Inspector Matt Scott, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We are continuing to work closely with Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service and a joint investigation will be launched to establish the circumstances of how the fire began.
“While the cause is still unknown we are currently treating it as suspected arson after it was reported a group of young people were seen letting off fireworks just before the fire started. We are urging anyone who may have witnessed anything or has any information which could assist us with our enquiries to please come forward.”
