It’s time for us to get into the month of January and see what’s out there for us at the multiplex and at home on streaming with new movie options.
As we did last month, we’ve broken down what movies are coming out this month that catch our attention. Promising options range from a new spin on Mean Girls to a new action film with Jason Statham at the charge.
We’ve also got a fun take on the Biblical epic, new projects from Ariana DeBose and Daisy Ridley and a couple of IMAX re-releases of 2023 favorites.

Good Grief
Schitt’s Creek mastermind Dan Levy makes his directorial debut in a dramedy about an artist taking a trip with two friends after the death of his husband. Ruth Negga, Himesh Patel and Luke Evans co-star.

The Book of Clarence
The Harder They Fall filmmaker Jeymes Samuel returns with his hotly anticipated sophomore feature, this one an irreverent Biblical epic starring Lakeith Stanfield as the titular Clarence.

The Beekeeper
Jason Statham teams up with Fury filmmaker David Ayer for this revenge thriller starring a secret government operative who doubles as, you guessed it, a humble beekeeper. The trailer promises plenty of action (and honey).

Mean Girls
It’s time to break out those Burn Books and stop trying to make fetch happen as the film adaptation of the Mean Girls Broadway musical hits theaters. Yes, even if the trailer doesn’t show it, this one is definitely a musical.

Lift
Kevin Hart leads F. Gary Gray’s newest film, a heist comedy that features an all-star cast of Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Vincent D’Onofrio, Billy Magnussen, Úrsula Corberó, Sam Worthington and Jacob Batalon, just to name a few.

Oppenheimer (re-release)
If you want to catch Christopher Nolan’s historical epic again in IMAX, Universal is re-releasing the film in select theaters. However, the film is available at home to rent or purchase if you can’t make it back out.

Oscar winner Ariana DeBose and Chris Messina lead this sci-fi thriller about a group of astronauts who must navigate tensions as they flare on Earth.

Star Wars star Daisy Ridley trades a lightsaber for a small cubicle in this stellar Sundance 2023 entry about a recluse woman who must break out of her shell when she meets a nice guy she works with.
