MUMBAI: As expected, Mumbai beat Baroda on the basis of first innings lead to make it to the semi-final of the Ranji Trophy at BKC on Tuesday, but not before something special happened on the morning of the fifth and final day of the quarter-final.
Off-spinner Tanush Kotian (120 not out, 129b, 10x4, 2x6) and pacer Tushar Deshpande (123, 129b, 10x6, 8x4) logged the first instance of the No 10 and No 11 batsmen making centuries in the same innings in the Ranji Trophy, feasting on Baroda’s tired bowlers. Deshpande, in fact, overtook V Sivaramakrishnan's 115 (for TN v Delhi in 2000-01) to log the highest individual score at No 11 in the Ranji Trophy. For both, it was their maiden century in First-Class cricket.
