Ranji Trophy: Sanat Sangwan stands firm as Delhi deny Tamil Nadu outright win in Group D

NEW DELHI: Delhi's Sanat Sangwan played a patient knock of 83 runs to help his team secure a draw and earn a point against Tamil Nadu in their Ranji Trophy Group D encounter.

Despite losing their last two wickets early on the final day, Delhi managed to put up a resilient performance in their second innings, with Sangwan anchoring the innings with his 231-ball stay at the crease, which included 12 boundaries.

Sangwan received valuable contributions from captain Himmat Singh (36) and Jonty Sidhu (23) as Delhi ended the day at 193 for 8 in 83 overs, surviving some tense moments.

Tamil Nadu's bowling attack, led by Washington Sundar (3/45), Sonu Yadav (2/37), and Ajith Ram (2/52), kept the pressure on the Delhi batsmen throughout the day.

In other Group D matches, Chandigarh secured an impressive nine-wicket victory over Assam, chasing down the target of 78 runs in just 17.2 overs, with Manan Vohra remaining unbeaten on 51 off 50 balls.

The match between Jharkhand and Railways in Ahmedabad ended in a draw, with Jharkhand gaining three points due to their first-innings lead.

Chhatisgarh and Saurashtra also played out a draw in Rajkot, but the visitors managed to secure three points. Cheteshwar Pujara, who was dropped from the Indian team, showcased his class with a magnificent 234 off 383 balls, studded with 25 boundaries and a six.

Arpit Vasavada (73) and Sheldon Jackson (62) also contributed with half-centuries as Saurashtra reached 478 for 8 on the final day in response to Chhatisgarh's 578 for 7 declared. Shashank Singh (3/43) was the pick of the bowlers for Chhatisgarh.
