Lewis Ferguson has revealed his Hampden winner against Rangers for Aberdeen put him in the 'doghouse' with his Gers-daft brothers.
The Scotland international - now plying his trade in Italy's Serie A with Bologna - ran out with the Dons at Hampden in the League Cup semi-finals five years ago and ended up the hero on the day as he sparked wild scenes in the red end of the ground. It is safe to say things at home weren't quite the same. The Rangers supporting backing were all pleased for him personally - but not from a result point of view and it put him in the bad books.
Fast-forward to 2023 and Jim Goodwin will be hoping his troops can replicate the heroics of Derek McInnes' side as they dumped Steven Gerrard's men out. Michael Beale is now the main man in the dugout as both sides compete for a spot in the Viaplay Cup Final. Reflecting on that moment at the national stadium, Ferguson told the Scottish Daily Express: “That goal put me in the doghouse with my brothers. My whole family was there and my two brothers, Darren and Ross, are massive Rangers fans. My dad said that when I scored he didn’t know it was myself that had scored because they had all jumped up.

“They were all so happy for me personally but it is fair to say that because it was the only goal of the game my brothers weren’t best pleased with me. When I got back into the house I was in the doghouse and it took me a wee while to talk them back round.”
He continued: "It was my first ever game at Hampden because it wasn’t long after I had signed for Aberdeen.
“What a day it was, it was amazing. You dream of days like that and everything. The game was really tight and there wasn’t much in it. We were solid that day and we knew one bit of magic from a set-piece could win us the game and that is what happened. The goal was a bit of a blur.
“I looked up at the clock and there was less than 10 minutes to go and I got that feeling that if we got a goal we would win the game. Niall McGinn put the corner in and I managed to get above a couple of defenders.
“There were so many people going for the ball and I remember Mikey Devlin behind me as well. I never actually saw the ball go into the net. What a feeling it was when it hit the back of the net. It was just sheer and utter joy. It was great to score in front of the Aberdeen fans. I just ran towards them and it was just utter chaos.”
