Rangers vs St Johnstone fixture flip 'contemplated'

There is potential for Rangers' match against St Johnstone next month to be flipped, according to a report.

Philippe Clement and his players are due to host Saints at Ibrox on Sunday, October 6.

The game takes place at 3pm on the Sunday that weekend due to Rangers' participation in the Europa League against Lyon on Thursday, 3.

This clashes with the Great Scottish Run taking place in Glasgow. All major roads around Ibrox will be closed in the hours leading up to kick-off because of the 10k and half-marathon taking place in the city.

It is expected that the match will remain on October 6, however, an 8pm start is the most probable outcome.

However, the Courier claim that the Scottish Premiership match could be switched to McDiarmid Park could be on the cards, as the clubs have already contemplated the possibility.

They state that there is no chance Police Scotland will allow the match to kick-off at 3pm and 5pm in Glasgow, but that a night time game is likely.

A reversal of the fixture is another possibility that could be seriously looked at by the clubs in order to fulfill the match on the original date, with free midweek dates at a premium this season due to the expanded European club competitions.

Meanwhile, Scott Wright has lifted the lid on his decision to leave Rangers for Birmingham City.

The winger, 27, made the £300,000 switch from the Scottish Premiership to League One on transfer deadline day last Friday.

He scored on his debut for the Blues as he scored in the dying embers of a 2-1 victory over Wigan on Saturday afternoon.

And after three-and-a-half years spent at Ibrox, Wright insists it was a 'no brainer' to take on a new challenge in his career.
