Rangers update on World Cup star amid summer transfer 'reports'

(Image: PA)

Rangers are "not looking to cash in" on Thelo Aasgaard this summer despite growing transfer speculation, according to a new report.

The Norway international caught the eye with a standout performance against France at the World Cup, sparking reports of a big-money move to Italy. Atalanta have been credited with interest and were said to have opened talks over a deal for the 24-year-old midfielder.

However, the Scottish Sun has reported that no discussions have taken place and that Aasgaard is not for sale. According to the report, Ibrox chiefs remain relaxed over the situation and have no intention of entertaining offers.

Aasgaard only joined Gers last summer in a £3.5million switch from Luton Town and is under contract until 2029. He netted eight goals in 48 appearances in his debut season and continues to enhance his reputation on the international stage.

New boss Derek McInnes is keen to work closely with the midfielder as he shapes his squad for the campaign ahead. Atalanta have also been linked with Nico Raskin, although suggestions of active talks are understood to be wide of the mark.

The Italian side recently sent Ben Godfrey to Ibrox on loan in a deal that includes a £3.8million option to buy next summer.
