Rangers transfer news as Mateo Cassierra fresh hope emerges alongside Erik Botheim alternative solution

Mateo Cassierra may still be a live option for Rangers - as reports in South America suggest his agent could be holding back.

The Colombian striker had been heavily linked with a move to Ibrox as Gio van Bronckhorst looks for competition for Alfredo Morelos.

25-year-old Cassierra has been in scintillating form for FC Sochi and had been eyed up as a potential alternative to his countryman, whose contract expires next summer.

His agent appeared to pour cold water over the links though as he named a list of five clubs keen - but left Rangers out of the mix.

He named Zenit St Petersburg, River Plate and Red Star Belgrade, Olympiacos and Fenerbahce, appearing to put an end to Ibrox as a live option.

However reports in Mexico now claim that Monterrey are interested, with Cassierra talked up as "the new Luis Suarez," who could replace departing striker Vincent Janssen.

It comes from El Futbolero who say Monterrey are watching him closely and want to make a deal happen.

But they weren't named as an option by his agent, sparking some confusion as to who is really in the running for £5m-rated Cassierra.

Rosenborg striker Erik Botheim today emerged as another option if Cassierra isn't viable.

Multiple reports claim the 22-year-old Norwegian is an option on the table, and he's available on a free transfer after leaving Krasnodar.

He'd previously scored 22 goals in 46 appearances for Bodo/Glimt and comes very highly-rated in his homeland.
