Rangers transfer 'concern' highlighted by Kenny Miller as he pinpoints key area to address

Rangers have sprung into life in the summer transfer market as Rabbi Matondo took the tally arriving at Ibrox so far to four.

The 21-year-old winger arrived on a four-year deal from Schalke as he joins Antonio Colak and Tom Lawrence as attacking additions for Giovanni van Bronckhorst's men. The Light Blues paid a fee of close to £2million for the Croatia international while free agent Lawrence rejected advances from Sheffield United to make the switch to Ibrox.

John Souttar was the first summer arrival after penning a pre-contract agreement from Hearts and ex-Rangers star Kenny Miller has hailed the deals to date as 'good business', particularly with Joe Aribo leaving the club for English Premier League outfit Southampton. But despite all the positive signings at the top end of the park, he reckons an area of 'concern' for Van Bronckhorst to address may well be the centre-back position.

He's highlighted the fitness of Filip Helander and Souttar with both carrying injury histories meaning they might be light in that area of the park. Even with the duo fit plus Connor Goldson he reckons one more may be needed for that extra-cover.

Nikola Katic and Leon King are also on the books at Ibrox and could be a solution to that issue but in terms of signings to date, Miller reckons it gives the forward line a bit of freshness.

He told Go Radio: "There's been some good business in areas of the field Rangers needed to strengthen in, particularly with Joe Aribo leaving. I think now, for Rangers, an area of concern might just be centre-back.

"Is Helander going to be fit? Is John Souttar going to be fit? Who's going to partner Connor Goldson at the back? I think there are a few niggles.

"He (Helander) has (injury history) and so does John Souttar. Even with those three players fit you maybe just need one more as a little bit of cover. I'm not sure if there's anybody in the B-team that could make that step. Leon King could maybe make that step up as a bit of cover.

"There's been good business. Over the last week to 10 days there's been some rumblings from the Rangers support about not signing players and inactivity in the market. Well, that's been nailed now with resigning players to keep them in the build and with the three new faces. It gives that squad, and particularly the forward line, a bit of freshness."
