Rangers told to hand Van Bronckhorst transfer treasure chest as boss backed for stay until January

Alan Hutton reckons Giovanni van Bronckhorst needs backed, not sacked as Rangers manager.

The former right-back is calling on the Light Blues to get cash to spend this January despite a damaging 2-1 defeat to St Johnstone on Saturday leaving them seven points off Celtic in the Premiership title race. There has been debate on the Dutchman's position but Ibrox hero Hutton is in no doubt he should get one more window to make his mark.

There's an argument to be made that the upcoming World Cup break is the perfect time to make a change but that's been rallied against amid backing for the current man in the Rangers dugout. Hutton told Football Insider: “When we look at it there is two games left before the break for the World Cup. You can look at it both ways. There is an opportunity there if somebody is to come in and lay down their plan and what they want to do moving forward .

"But I believe Gio deserves that extra bit of time to try and put it right. “We know it has been a difficult campaign, especially in Europe.

"Some of the performances have lacked that style that we normally see from Rangers, especially in their forward play.

“I think he deserves that little bit of time especially after what he did last season. Let him have that transfer window to see what he can do and take it from there.“
