Rangers title celebrations alleged sex attacker cleared over assault on 14-year-old fan

A man was cleared today of sexually assaulting a teenage Rangers fan at the club's title celebrations.

Mohammed Gadribo, 37, was alleged to have attacked the 14-year-old girl in Glasgow city centre on March 7, 2021.

Gadribo was said to have touched the girl’s breasts over her clothing in George Square.

He was further accused of pulling her to the ground, rubbing his body on hers and attempting to place his hands under her clothing.

Gadribo was found not guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to the sex assault. He was convicted on a separate charge of breaching coronavirus regulations but was admonished.

Sheriff Matthew Jackson QC stated that there were "inconsistencies" between the statements given by the girl and her friend, who was a witness, to police.

He added: "In relation to identification, in the circumstances, I find that the Crown have not reached the high standard of proof beyond reasonable doubt.

"I find that Gadribo had no reasonable excuse or essential purpose to be where he was."

The married Libyan asylum seeker earlier claimed that he went to the George Square after being invited by friends for "fresh air."

He claimed in evidence that he did not know or see the girl or her friend that day.

Gadribo - a first offender of the city's Tollcross - bowed his head after saying: "I made a mistake" before leaving the dock.
