Scotland youth coach Billy Stark says Scotland, Rangers and Uddingston starlet Alex Lowry’s deadball ability is a huge boost in their Under-19s Euro 2022 qualification pursuit.
The teenage midfielder scored a brilliant free-kick and netted a penalty in Wednesday’s 2-1 elite round win over Turkey.
Lowry has made four appearances for the senior Rangers side this term after starring in their Lowland League 'B' team, scoring once.
He will now look to help Scotland's teenagers through to the summer's finals in Slovakia by facing host nation Hungary today, before finishing their mini-tournament against Israel next week.
U19s boss Stark told the Daily Record the Uddingston teenager is helping his team excel in an area that's needed improvement: “That is not something we’ve excelled at over the years with free-kicks.
“But Alex has got great confidence and he brings that to the game.
“You are always confident and trusting him in terms of these situations.
“You can’t budget for getting the free-kicks in every single time but the composure with the penalty as well was great.
“That’s the thing when you get an international squad together, some boys are on a high because of their club form.”
