Rangers star in court accused of dangerous driving on Scottish motorway

Rangers winger Rabbi Matondo's trial, where he is accused of dangerous driving, was postponed on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old allegedly committed the offence on Glasgow's M8 motorway on August 1, 2023.

Court papers state the Welsh international was behind the wheel of an Audi Q8 sports car at the time.

The charge says Matondo drove at speeds grossly in excess of the prevailing speed limits.

It is claimed he drove at excessive speeds for the road and traffic conditions as well as failed to maintain proper discipline.

The allegations go on to say Matondo repeatedly failed to maintain an adequate stopping distance behind preceding motor vehicles.

He is further claimed to have overtaken a motor vehicle on the inside lane and drove in the path of a preceding motor vehicle.

Matondo is then alleged to have caused the drivers of preceding motor vehicles to change lanes.

He is lastly accused of braking harshly, going through a red light, failed to comply with road markings, drove across a roundabout and accelerated harshly.

Matondo pleaded not guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

He was due to stand trial and appeared today in the dock.

His lawyer Michael Lyon asked for a motion to adjourn the trial for the defence to conduct a report after receiving dashcam footage last week.

Matondo, of the city's Woodlands, will now stand trial in March next year.
