Rangers have revealed the startling guaranteed Champions League prize money they received in comparison to the rest of their group.
The Ibrox club were paired with Ajax, Napoli and Liverpool in Europe's elite competition as they qualified via beating PSV Eindhoven in the play-off round.
When they qualified the club were guaranteed a financial windfall before a ball was kicked in the competition.
Rangers received £17.9million and their group opponents received between 1.8 and 2.8 times that amount, irrespective of their performance in the tournament.
Ibrox chiefs say this is down to the fact of the low value attached to Scottish media rights and the historic 10-year UEFA coefficient.
The club added: "The certainty of revenues provided by UCL qualification is hugely beneficial, however, the quantum of earnings is significantly less than may have been perceived."
Rangers recorded the worst group stage record in history as they failed to register a point in their matches. They also suffered numerous heavy defeats meaning their goal difference was a staggering -20.
As a result of this the club never picked up any further European revenue from the performance-based fund.
Total Champions League starting prize money Group A (Rangers FC)
Liverpool £50.6million
Napoli £36.6million
Ajax £33.1million
