Rangers punter warned Celtic obsession is too much as looming 11 titles in 12 years proves tipping point – Hotline

Celtic fans were delighted with their display against St Mirren but Celtic fans reckon Aberdeen’s thrashing at Tynecastle prove the Dons only raise their game against the Ibrox club.

That was the essence of another lively Hotline, so let’s get to it. David Bryce, Troon, emailed: “Celtic were, in the main, excellent against a decent St Mirren side. Kyogo was back to his best and Yuki had a good debut. I think Ange must play Turnbull more, he’s a class act and, in my eyes, along with Hatate, our best midfielder. He looked annoyed when he scored the goal. If we don’t play him more, we’ll lose him , and he’s a precocious talent.”

Eddie Easson, Ballingry, Fife said: “A routine victory for the Celtic juggernaut cranking up the goal difference. Rangers scraping by against 10 men. Rangers hoping the wheels are going to fall off. Celtic still bringing in new blood, Rangers recycling and trying to get a tune out of past their sell by stars.” Arrin Geddes, Irvine, said: “The champions stroll to a four-goal win while Rangers huff and puff to another single goal win against 10 men. St Mirren’s attitude to the game was refreshing and the contrast to the teams parking the bus made for a great game. Other teams should be trying to raise their quality, not sit in for 90 minute. This Celtic team has the answers either way, so why not have a go?”

Michael Emonds, Northampton said: “Chris Lowe asks when do Celtic ever get big calls in big games go against them? How about the cup semi-final against Inverness Caley Thistle hand ball on the goal line that all five officials missed? Clint Hill kicking Leigh Griffiths in the last minute at Celtic Park at least he admitted he got away with one. Willie Column awarding a spot kick to the Gers with his back to play and couldn’t possibly have seen it? And who could ever forget Jorge Cadete being called offside at Ibrox? Mr Lowe is so obsessed with Celtic because he’s got very little to write about Rangers, very soon he’ll have nothing to write about them at all.”

Kenny Wilson, Moffat, said: “Another solid performance and another three points closer to being league champions for the 11th time in 12 seasons. And to think if you listened to Alfie Mullen it’s not because they’re the best team with the most points it’s all to do with refereeing decisions in their favour. He doesn’t half talk rubbish!”

Paul McArdle, Gourock, said: “Kyogo likes a wee chip but Morelos likes the whole bag!”

George Wilson, West Sussex, said: “I begrudgingly concede that Aberdeen played quite well against Rangers last week but looking at their other performances and results it shows once again their players are cheats and frauds as they only turn up when they play Rangers. They used up everything they had against so had nothing left for Hearts. It’s quite likely they will only play Rangers once more this season as a team as gutless as them won’t finish in the top 6 and it’s only a matter of time before Goodwin is sacked.”

Ian McKay, Denny, said: “After watching most teams in the Premiership it is clear to me that teams raise their games against Rangers. However Rangers continue to accept it and deal with it. The league table would, I am sure, look different if Hagi, Lawrence, Helander, Souttar, Davis, Roofe and Colak had been fit. There is no team in the UK that has injuries to that extent.”

Allan McGaw, Alloa, emailed: “Good to see Morelos back to form again. He is badly needed re injuries to other players and showed his fiery attitude that’s been missing this season. It was a hard fought game on that ridiculous plastic pitch but it was 3pts and that’s all that matters.”

Lewis Fotheringham, Mount Ellen, said: “A win for Rangers, but yet again it was a frightening watch. We always have to make it hard for ourselves, even at 3-1 up against 10 men. The defence needs to tighten up otherwise our games might as well be shown on the Sky Horror channel!”

Dons fan William Masson, Aboyne, had a sense of perspective, sayings: “Hearts aren’t third in the league by accident, it took long term planning when in the Championship to get to where they are and strength of character not to make a hasty decision after the Brora Rangers result. Aberdeen need to make the same long term planning, even after last night I feel there is a team there to be nurtured and it needs work but Goodwin and the squad need to start getting results quickly or we are heading back to square one.”

And Rab Hunter, Dumfries, said: “Following Michael Beale’s recent insightful musings, where he stated he considered Aberdeen to be the third best team in Scotland, where therefore does he perceive Rangers to be, above or below Livingston - fourth or fifth best?”

Finally, George Fairgrieve emailed: “Montiel stubs out the cigar, takes four steps, slots home the penalty that wins the World Cup then casually walks away like it’s just another day at the office. Lawrence Shankland scores his regulation issue penalty against Aberdeen with Hearts already 2-0 up and he behaves like he’d just won the World Cup, fingers in ears and the hushed lips finger. Grow up son.”
