Rangers protestors slammed by Ibrox diehards as they fear £40m could go down the toilet - Hotline

Allan McGregor had a couple of choice words for the protesters amongst the Rangers fans who caused the disruption of the game against Dundee.

It’s fair to say many of the Light Blues faithful agree with their No.1.

McGregor was fuming when tennis balls and toilet rolls were flung onto the Dens Park pitch in protest at the club’s agreement to go to Australia with Celtic in November.

Rangers won the game in the closing stages, but Gary Stevenson, Newtonhill, was one of the fans concerned the delays might have halted the team’s title bid.

He said: “ McGregor got it spot on with his two word blast. Rangers are trying to defend a title and disruptions like this could cost them.

“Rangers’ profile in European Football is good at present and with cash flow repairing steadily we must cash in on any profitable deals to raise the profile further.”

Derek Adese, Dundee, added: “Do these so-called fans not realise that stop/starting games might cause a problem with our chance of being league champs?

“Protest, of course. But don’t affect our team on the pitch. Settle down guys, we’ve a league to win.”

Lewis Fotheringham, Mount Ellen, continued: “What did the Rangers fans at Dens Park think they were going to achieve by lobbing toilet roll and tennis balls onto the park?

“Surely banners and chants would have been a more effective protest against the Derby Down Under.”

Drew Ferguson, Oban , was next in line and said: “Rangers fans have every right to show their displeasure if they are not happy with the board as they did and do keep the club alive.

“But continually stopping the game could have cost the team big time. Would these same fans have been happy if Dundee had scored in the seventh minute of injury-time possibly losing the club £40 million Champions League monies?”

Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny, said: “The Rangers fans should be blessing the Old Firm friendly in Oz.

“Surely our colonial expats who can't afford to fly to Old Firm games should be rewarded as they pay also to support the Rangers/Celtic but never see them due to finances and distance. Grow up.”

On the actual football, John Bruce emailed to say: “The reaction of the West Ham players and the English media after they had sealed their quarter-final place in the Europa League last Thursday showed the true scale of Rangers’ achievement.

“West Ham losing their next game on Sunday also proved how difficult it is to refocus on domestic football and again shows the incredible job Rangers have done on their European run, especially after some of the high-energy games against some top sides.

“At Dundee, Rangers showed the focus needed to take the three points they deserved after another gruelling Thursday Euro tie, just as they’ve done so many times before.”

Celtic are still top of the table and Eddie Easson, Ballingry, had a chuckle at the fact manager Ange Postecoglou might have been watching Sing 2 with the family instead of the game at Dens.

He said: “Big Ange was spot on. He doesn’t need to watch Rangers play. There is nothing to bother him. The cartoons are more exciting.

“Rangers scraped a win against Dundee and they looked tired. With games mounting up, it can only get harder then the excuses will be flowing from the usual suspects.

“Celtic have gone from no-hopers at the start of the season to League Cup Winners and I’ll say it quietly possible treble winners. Five out of six trebles that would be some achievement.”

Meanwhile, Kevin Law, Drylaw, had a word about Hibs and reckons they need to get more streetwise.

He said: “Hibs poor discipline is easy to explain. They don’t know how, where or when to foul. Take a leaf out of Aberdeen and Hearts’ books. Not a criticism, just a professional fact.”
