Rangers player ratings as Ryan Kent dazzles Dortmund by channelling his inner Ribery again

What a night for Rangers.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst and his players notched one of the most famous victories in the club's history as they triumphed over Borussia Dortmund on aggregate to reach the Europa League last 16.

A 4-2 victory in Germany last week teed up a thriller at Ibrox and a pulsating 2-2 draw saw the Scottish Premiership champions through.

It was an evening marked by some outstanding individual performances as well as a huge collective effort.

Here's how Record Sport rated the Rangers players.

ALLAN McGREGOR: Pulled off vital stops to deny Brandt and Malen as the veteran stopper marked his 450th anniversary with a famous win. 7

JAMES TAVERNIER: Stood up and handled the pressure of the penalty and was just as clinical as he rammed home the precious second. 9

CONNOR GOLDSON: Centre-back’s blunder handed Bellingham chance to grab a lifeline but threw himself in front of everything as Gers scrapped to victory. 7

CALVIN BASSEY: On his heels as Malen pounced on Bellingham’s flick to fire Dortmund ahead but made amends after switching to left back, throwing over the cross for Tavernier’s equaliser. 7

BORNA BARISIC: Provided a clever decoy run as Kent won the penalty. Forced off at the interval after a painful clash of knees left him limping. 6

RYAN JACK: What a difference he’s made since returning from injury. Always sniffing for trouble and providing a cool head when things got frantic. 8

(SNS Group)

JOHN LUNDSTRAM: Took a booking for the team as he halted Thorgan Hazard on half-way as the Germans threatened a breakaway. Stiffened Gers backline when moved into the back three. 8

JOR ARIBO: Vital role in the build-up to the pen as he swept wide to Kent. Took pressure of his team all night long with his ability to cling onto possession in tight spaces. 8

SCOTT ARFIELD: Lucky his greediness did not come back to haunt Gers after opting to go himself from close range when Kent was screaming for a tap-in but another tireless shift. 7

RYAN KENT: Untouchable. Won the penalty which put Gers in front but denied what should have been the third by a crazy VAR call. Another big night when he brought his best stuff. 9

ALFREDO MORELOS: Outstanding. First touch seemed to be lined with velcro. May not have got the goal he craved but his hold-up play was vital as Gers rode a storm on their way to victory. 9

Subs:

LEON BALOGUN (for Barisic, 46): Nervy start as he was almost caught out by Reus but vital tackle on Brandt. 6

GLEN KAMARA (for Arfield, 69): Added steel and fresh legs in the final stages. 4
