Rangers player ratings as Ajax cruise to victory at Ibrox

Allan McGregor 5

Wrong-footed by Steven Berghuis' opener just four minutes into the match. Looked to have Mohammed Kudus' effort covered before deflection off King sent it into net. No chance with third Ajaz strike.

James Tavernier 6

The Rangers captain seriously struggled to contain a relentless Ajax attack and was often overrun by overlapping runners. Was majorly nullified from any meaningful offensive contribution before slotting home consolation spot-kick.

Leon King 4

A really tough learning experience for the 18-year-old. Let Berghuis' opener run through into the net and then had to close down Kudus for second but didn't. Rallied to improve as the match wore on.

James Sands 5

Another who endured a difficult night as he was thrust back into central defence. Couldn't cope with the offensive movement of an elite Ajax opposition. Looked a little lost without Ben Davies or Connor Goldson by his side.

Borna Barisic 6

Known for his attacking output, this was a much more restricted outing. Combined well with Kent in flashes but wasn't able to truly impact the contest going forward.

Steven Davis 5

So often a calming and influential presence for Rangers, but was unable to dictate play at Ibrox. Some tidy passing at points but too often struggled to match the intensity and quality of opposition.

Scott Arfield 6

Industrious in the midfield battle but not as successful with his usually perfect surging runs. Put in a real shift for his team but couldn't control proceedings or prevent Ajax onslaught.

Fashion Sakala 7

Impressive performance despite his side's struggles. Combined trickery with electric pace to beat Ajax defence on occasion but lacked cutting edge when the opportunity presented itself.

Malik Tillman 5

Wasn't afforded time and space to hurt Ajax but showed some grit in his play to compete at the highest level. Reduced to another holding midfielder at points.

Ryan Kent 6

Has come under major scrutiny for Rangers displays in recent weeks but offered some invention and creativity going forward. Beat his defender on occasion and sent a couple of excellent crosses into the box.

Antonio Colak 5

Seriously starved of any service as he cut an isolated figure for much of his performance at Ibrox. No question over his ability but was unable to show it as team-mates were kept busy defensively.

Glen Kamara (for Davis, 60) 4

On for final half-hour and slotted into a holding role in midfield.

Scott Wright (for Tillman, 60) 4

Tasked with playing centrally in final stages but looked uncomfortable.

Alfredo Morelos (for Colak, 60)  4

Robbed Ajax keeper in closing stages but dire effort wide summed up Rangers' Euro campaign.

Rabbi Matondo (for Kent, 83) 6

Earned his side a penalty within two minutes of coming on. Added much-needed spark.

Alex Lowry (for Arfield, 83) 3

Youngster was welcomed back from injury with cameo appearance.
