There is nothing worse than spending a lot of time and effort into planning a big birthday party only for someone to go and spoil it.
And it’s even worse when you’ve invited along some high profile guests for the occasion only to be left embarrassed by some of your pals.
Like if you’re introducing your new other half to family and mates for the first time at your special shindig and your drunk uncle ruins it with his daft antics or friend acts the fool to leave you red-faced.
Well, that’s how the Rangers hierarchy must be feeling on the eve of what should be an occasion to savour for everyone involved with the club.
When there’s a family feud in the build up to a get-together then it can always feel a wee bit awkward.
And that’s the case right now with the Rangers Family as the supporters take out their anger on the board.
But usually relatives can put a face on when it comes to a family occasion - and that’s what must happen this weekend.
Club 1872 released a stinging statement that savaged those running the club - naming Stewart Robertson, David Graham and James Bisgrove as three they had a particular beef with.
It came just 48 hours after the visiting support caused their Scottish Premiership clash with Dundee to be halted on three occasions with a toilet roll and tennis protest against the Sydney Super Cup friendly against Celtic.
And all of this as we approach a weekend where the club is celebrating its 150th anniversary with a glamour occasion at Ibrox.
Luis Figo leads a galaxy of global stars such as Kaka, Roberto Carlos and Robert Pires as well as a host of Light Blues legends.
It’s billed as a family day with events around the ground for kids and the club announced only a limited amount of tickets remain.
There is real anger amongst the Rangers support over the trip Down Under and if fans really wanted to make their point then Saturday afternoon would give them that chance.
Hopefully, though, the dissenters see sense and don’t spoil the big day - otherwise the hosts could be left feeling red-faced and the glamorous guests wishing their invites had been lost in the post.
