Rangers make SPFL request as discussions with three key parties over Europa League help begin

Rangers have requested that their Premiership match with Motherwell next Sunday is moved to a new date.

The Ibrox club this week booked a first European semi-final since 2008 with a 3-2 aggregate win over Portuguese side Braga.

They take on Celtic in Scottish Cup semi-final action this Sunday, before a week's worth of preparation prior to next weekend's Fir Park battle.

The Thursday following that is when their Europa League semi-final first leg with RB Leipzig is due to take place, and Rangers want help.

It's been reported by the Daily Record that the lunchtime kick-off against Motherwell - due to be aired on Sky Sports - is subject of a fixture move request by Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side.

Graham Alexander's Steelmen haven't been involved in matches this weekend due to the Scottish Cup but it's a key game for them in their pursuit of European football.

An SPFL spokesman said: “The SPFL has received a request from Rangers to move forward their game with Motherwell on Sunday to assist with their preparations for the Leipzig game.

"The SPFL is in discussions with Motherwell, Sky Sports and Police Scotland regarding the request."
