Rangers legend urges Aberdeen star to quit Dons as he insists 'now is the time' for Pittodrie exit amid transfer interest

Rangers icon Barry Ferguson believes now is the time for nephew Lewis to make his exit from Aberdeen.

Serie A side Caligari watched the midfielder from Hamilton as he scored two penalties in a 3-1 Premiership victory for the Dons over Hibs.

It took his tally to 14 goals for the season, a term which started with a transfer request off the back of a bid from English Premier League side Watford.

His uncle - who also hails from Hamilton and made himself a legend at Rangers during his playing career - says both Aberdeen and his nephew have served each other well following an arrival from Hamilton Accies in 2018.

But amid rising interest from Italy and the star's rise to Scotland contention, Rangers legend Ferguson reckons a departure from Pittodrie is on the cards.

He told Go Radio: "Now is the time for Lewis to go and move up. That's not me being disrespectful to Aberdeen.

"I just think it's now time for him. Lewis has been good for Aberdeen but Aberdeen has been good for Lewis.

"I think if he wants to progress, it's time for him to go in the summer."
