Rangers learn Union Saint Gilloise Champions League date as away ticket scramble likely after venue change

Rangers' Champions League third qualifying round opponents Union Saint-Gilloise have announced the times and dates for when their two-legged tie will take place.

The Belgians have confirmed the first leg will take place at 7:45pm UK time on August 2 with the return leg a week later on August 9 at Ibrox. Rangers were knocked out the Champions League last year by Malmo and are desperate to reach the group stage after making 2022's Europa League final.

Union Saint-Gilloise released a statement about the arrangements for August's big two matches against the Light Blues.

It read: "On Monday, July 18, the draw for the third preliminary round of the UEFA Champions League took place. In this round, the Union will face the Scottish team of Rangers FC, last runners-up in the Europa League. The first match will be played at Stade Den Dreef in Leuven on August 2 at 8:45 p.m.

"The return match will be played in Glasgow seven days later, namely on August 9 at 7:45 pm local time (8:45 pm Belgian time).

"More information concerning the ticketing of these two meetings will be revealed as soon as possible on our networks."

It's not Union's home stadium that the first leg will be played at. They have switched from their own Stade Joseph Marien to OH Leuven's Den Dreef Stadium, which has a capacity of just 10,000 and sits 30km outside Brussels.

That will no doubt spark a ticket scramble for the away leg due to the small size of Leuven's ground. Giovanni van Bronckhorst's men begin their Premiership season away at Livingston on July 31.
