The young defender has been thrown into the deep end in the heart of Rangers' defence following injury to ever-present key stopper Connor Goldson. The experienced defender faces a couple of months out with the 18-year-old stepping up and forming a partnership with summer signing Ben Davies.

He's picked up huge Champions League experience against the likes of Liverpool and Ajax in the section and once again was in from the start against Napoli in another real test. He returned to the fold after being withdrawn at half-time against Livingston through illness but had to be replaced with just over ten minutes to play in Naples.

Rangers' defensive options are limited with John Souttar and Filip Helander long-term absentees alongside Goldson, however the youngster was just suffering from cramp and should be fine to line up against Aberdeen at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership this weekend.

Providing an update in his post-match press conference, the Dutchman said: "Just before he had the tackle, he won the duel and got cramp.

"He's 18-year-old and playing almost every game at the highest level. I am really proud the way he is performing at the moment at that age .

"It's only cramp. After a good rest between now and Saturday I think he will be available."
